Good diet means good oral health for your children

A new study has found that early exposure to two chemicals often found in food packaging and fungicides may cause irreversible damage to children’s teeth.

The researchers found exposure to the chemicals bisphenol A (BPA) and vinclozolin may interfere with hormones responsible for the growth of dental enamel.

Lead study author Dr Katia Jedeon, of the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM), and colleagues presented their findings at the 2016 European Congress of Endocrinology in Munich, Germany.

Encouraging good oral health in our children

A third of parents believe it’s acceptable for children to have experienced tooth decay before they become a teenager.

These results come from a survey conducted by Denplan, which found that 30% of parents believe decay in children is acceptable while 26% said they have found it difficult to regulate children’s sugar consumption.

Of the parents surveyed, 29% believed painful oral health conditions, such as tooth decay, are down to your family history and just 18% said they take their child to see the dentist once a year as soon as their first tooth appears.

A bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace a missing tooth by joining an artificial tooth permanently to adjacent teeth or dental implants. Types of bridges may vary, depending upon how they are fabricated and the way they anchor to the adjacent teeth. Conventionally, bridges are made using the indirect method of restoration. However, bridges can be fabricated directly in the mouth using such materials as composite resin.
